Description

Because Steampunk is the new Pirate. I was inspired when I glanced at the thumb of Steampunk Alice by ~yoyomon, and it really looked like she was holding the front half of a motorbike. Turns out it was a buzz-saw, but there you go.

This model is designed for speed. Air flows over the top of the wheel and is funnelled through the fuselage and expelled backwards and down. With the addition of the exhaust steam from the drive turbine this creates an upward lift for the back of the vehicle. It can either be a single, central stream as in the picture above, or can be split slightly to each side, making the machine more stable.
Steering is acheived by the counterweights, which move independantly- controlled by the handles- and many models further incorporate some amount of steering into the jet stream; this is more common on the split-jet models.
Acceleration is controlled by the foot pedals, braking and gear change through squeezing and twisting the handles respectively. Any questions. further to those addressed in the comments below?

There will certainly be more in this vein. Knowing me, I'm going to end up drawing Steampunk Pirates. Well, we'll see.

Textures are from the ever-useful mayang, and the lacey border pattern is from this site I found using google.

[Update]: :iconfoxfires: was kind enough to include this in one of a pair of Steampunk feature articles. Check out the work of some of dA's creative and talented Steamheads.
